Offers:

All dogs must be current on the following vaccines to participate in any group activities:

  • Canine Distemper (DHLPP) vaccine
  • Rabies vaccine
  • Bordetella / Kennel Cough vaccine
  • Canine Influenza / Flu vaccine

If your dog has not received these vaccines, it is required that they receive these vaccines at least 3 days prior to participation. If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please feel free to contact us.


IN CLINIC DAY TRAINING:

This program offers intensive personalized training, where the instructor lays the foundations of obedience. Your dog will receive a jumpstart to better manners in home or out in public. This is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for 3 consecutive weeks. The training is done at White Oak Animal Hospital with drop off by 9 am and pick up after 3 pm. Included in this training are 2 private training sessions with the trainer.

BASIC OBEDIENCE CLASSES:

Includes:

  • Basic Commands (sit, down, come, off, settle, stay)
  • Leash manners
  • Household manners
  • Socialization with people and other dogs
  • Focuses on a positive approach using lures and rewards

DOG/PUPPY PLAYTIME:

Bring your dog to Dog/Puppy Playtime. Your dog will enjoy romping in our supervised playgroup where good manners are reinforced. He/She will return home well exercised!

PRIVATE CONSULT:

Consists of approximately 2 hour private consult for both dog and owner, with our trainer. She will be able to work with you on individual behavioral or training issues.

PLAY & TRAIN:

We offer "PLAY & TRAIN", an add on service to our puppy playtime. Your dog will have a one on one session with our trainer to "bone up" on his/her manners, then back out to play with their puppy pals. From leash walking, polite greetings, or just a new trick to impress your friends or family, it will be a doggone good time!

*TUESDAY - FRIDAY*

CGC / CANINE GOOD CITIZENSHIP
  • 1 hour a week class for 7 weeks
  • Requirements: must have prior obedience training
  • At the 7th week you will take a one time, pass or fail, set of ten tests demonstrating confidence and control

GREAT OUTDOORS CLASS

This class is for dogs who have had previous training. Dogs learn more control in challenging situations. This class promotes walking together, hiking, and off lead work; while encouraging you and your dog to enjoy a more active lifestyle.

Pet Training Instructors    

Paula Thomas - Head Instructor

Paula is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and Certified Professional Dog Trainer-KA thru the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers. She has been training dogs professionally for 22 years. She has been a guest speaker and consultant to animal health care professionals. She has also lectured on safely raising kids and dogs together. Her varied experience includes obedience and conformation showing, competitive weight pull and raising children and puppies together. Since 2006 she has been an Animal Behavior College Mentor Trainer for students taking their distance-learning course. She continues to supplement her hands-on experience by regularly attending classes, seminars and workshops given by leaders in the field of dog training. She is a proud Charter member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), The Society of Behavior Technicians, The President of The Virginia American Pit Bull Terrier Club and an approved AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator

 

Dara Lambert

Dara holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Delaware with a minor in Sociology. She is a graduate of Animal Behavior College, one of the largest dog training schools in the nation and has attended the Peaceable Paws Dog Training and Behavior Academy with renowned dog trainer and author, Pat Miller. She has been working professionally with dogs since 2002. She is also a regular volunteer at the Fauquier SPCA where she assists with adoptions and participates in the exercise and training of available dogs. She continues to supplement her hands-on experience by regularly attending classes, seminars and workshops given by leaders in the field of dog training. She is a proud member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and an approved AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator.

Jocelyn Helgran
Training Instructor

Jocelyn is an Animal Behavior College (ABC) Certified Dog Trainer. She has been working with dogs for over ten years, and she still spends a large portion of her free time reading books or articles, and attending dog training seminars. She lives in Spotsylvania with her husband and two dogs; Gus and Boots. When she’s not training or studying she is usually pursuing her other passion as an artist (her work is displayed throughout the White Oak Animal Hospital). Her other hobbies include all sorts of outdoor activities, spending time with family, painting and making crafts, and being an avid sports fan, just to name a few.
